1] How much does Streaming pay?
The actual amount you get paid per stream will vary
greatly depending on the Streaming service, whether the listener who streamed
the song was a
paid subscriber or a free subscriber, any agreements in place between the Streaming service and Record Labels that may affect the payout pool, the
country the listener was from, and most importantly, the amount of the payout pool compared to the the total number of streams on the particular
streaming platform.
According to Spotify, "Spotify, like every major streaming service, pays royalties based on an artist’s or songwriter’s share of overall streams across
the platform — not based on a fixed per-stream rate. We pay rightsholders based on streamshare — their share of total streams in a given month. E.g.,
if an artist accounts for 1% of all streams in a
particular country, their selected rightsholder(s) receive 1% of the recording
royalties we pay there.
When you place your music with a distributor, they will submit it to all the
music streaming companies that they deal with, not just Spotify and Apple.
All the Streaming companies have their own , different pay structures. To look at an individual pay per stream across all the different streamers, it
won't tell you very much, because of all the wild cards in all the different formulas.
As a rough ballpark across all the streaming companies, you are probably looking at $100. to $1,000. per 100,000 streams, or $1,000. to $10,000.
per million streams. I would guestimate $2,500 to $3,500. per one million streams for the average artist.
2] Can you make a Million dollars from streaming your music?
To make a million dollars you would need to get roughly 100 million to 1 billion streams. Only the top artists and supergroups are pulling in those
streams. Apparently there are over 1,000 songs that have hit the billion mark across the streaming platforms.

3] How do you get your music on Streaming Services?
Also known as digital music aggregators, song aggregators, digital aggregators,
music aggregators, digital
distribution aggregator or just aggregator.
What is a digital music distributor or aggregator?
An Aggregator is basically a Music Distribution company that will take your
songs and make them available for people to play them on streaming
and download sites around the world. Sites like Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music,
YouTube, Google Play, Pandora, Tidal, Amazon, Deezer and hundreds
of other music websites. They will collect any royalties or payments due to you
by those sites for people playing or downloading (purchasing)
your songs and pay them to you.
How much do they charge you for their Digital Music Distribution service?
Unlike most types of businesses where the costs are easy to compare, aggregators
are not so easy to compare. They are very creative in their
pricing structures and how they differentiate themselves from their competitors.
Some charge a one time fee per submission only, some a fee and a
percentage of your sales, some a yearly fee and no submission fee, some a yearly
fee, no submission fee and no percentage, some charge a
percentage only, some charge a fee per store and lots of other pricing
structures. And if that is not confusing enough, the fees and percentages
are all different. Not knowing how many streams or downloads you will get makes
it very difficult to calculate what the total fees would be under
each price structure and to be able to compare them. We list the fees for each
aggregator below. Check the website of any of the ones you are
interested in, to see if there have been any changes in price or service.
How do you decide on which music aggregator?
As far as we can tell, we don't think you would be too wrong in picking any of
them. You can always change later on if you don't like the one you
chose, although a change may incur additional fees for new bar codes, non
refundable fees etc. Look closely at the details of each. Will they get
you on the major streaming sites such as those listed above? Some offer other
services which might interest you such as physical distribution of
your CD or vinyl record album, promotional services, physical manufacturing of
your CD, sync licensing, a storefront for people to find and
preview your songs and other various services. Although most of those services
you can obtain elsewhere on your own.
